Return Policy - PAT

Dear friends, travelers, and clients,

Thank you very much for choosing us! The Peruvian system of services and products may differ from what you are accustomed to in your home country. We kindly suggest reading the following information carefully:

Traveling in Peru

Peru Adventure Trek operates in regions where accommodation, transportation, and service standards may not match those you are used to. However, we strive, with utmost care and dedication, to provide the best service for our clients. Traveling in Peru requires flexibility, patience, an open mind, good humor, and understanding that changes may occur without prior notice due to circumstances beyond our control (Force Majeure – see below). By booking any of our tours, you agree to allow Peru Adventure Trek to make necessary changes without liability.

Force Majeure

This refers to any event that Peru Adventure Trek cannot foresee or avoid, even with due care. This includes events such as war, threats of war, riots, civil unrest, terrorist activities, labor disputes, illness, natural disasters, adverse weather conditions, fires, or similar events beyond our control. In such cases, Peru Adventure Trek will not accept responsibility and reserves the right to modify, postpone, or cancel trips (this is, of course, a last resort).

Additional Charges Due to Protests or Strikes (Force Majeure)

In the event of a protest or strike, which is not uncommon in Cusco, it may be necessary to leave one or even two days earlier than planned to meet other service commitments. In such cases, an additional fee will be charged to cover incurred costs.

Risks

By booking any of our adventure trips (Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, Salkantay, Ausangate, Choquequirao, Lares, Vilcabamba trek, and more), you assume the associated risks. For these treks, Peru Adventure Trek Agency assumes no liability.

Travel Insurance

We highly recommend travel insurance that covers accidents, medical expenses (including rescue and air ambulance), and emergency repatriation. We also suggest coverage for cancellations and lost luggage. Use a travel insurance comparison site to explore over 250 plans to find the best policy for your needs.

Once you have purchased travel insurance, email a copy with the insurance company name and policy number, or bring this information with you to our office.

Holiday or Election Surcharges

An additional charge of $35 USD per person applies to all treks (group/private/group size) on the following dates:

  • Christmas: December 22, 23, 24, 25
  • New Year: December 29, 30, 31, January 1

Additional charges also apply if a trek begins during election days (as fines are imposed in Peru for not voting). These surcharges compensate our staff for working on holidays or cover fines for not voting.

Submitting Your Primary and Backup Departure Dates

By providing a primary and backup date for your trek (Inca Trail, Lares, Salkantay, etc.), you authorize Peru Adventure Trek to use either date for your reservation. Once we receive your booking form and confirm your deposit, we will send an electronic receipt confirming your trek and departure date within 48 hours.

Personal Details for Booking

Your passport number and other personal details must be valid. Please notify us immediately if your passport number changes after booking, especially for the Classic Inca Trail. Failure to update your details may result in denial of the trek.

Student Discount

To qualify for this discount, you must present a valid ISIC card. Send a scanned copy of the card during booking. It must be valid on your trek date. You must also show the ISIC card upon arrival in Cusco and at Machu Picchu.

Booking and Deposit

  1. A 50% deposit (or a minimum of $250 USD if the total is less than $250 USD) is required to book any trek, trip, rental, or service. This deposit is non-refundable.
  2. Once the deposit is received, a binding contract is established.
  3. The deposit can be paid via:
    • Visa (balance can also be paid with Visa)
    • Bank transfer
    • Western Union (balance can also be paid this way)
Note: All transaction fees are the responsibility of the client.

Final Balance Payment

The remaining balance must be paid 25 days before your trek/service. Payment methods:

  • Visa
  • Western Union
Note: All transaction fees are the responsibility of the client.

Cancellations

  • Air, train, and ferry tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Tours:
    • 30-20 days: 40% refund
    • 19-9 days: 20% refund
    • 8 days or fewer: No refund
  • Deposits are non-refundable, and Inca Trail cancellations are not refunded due to high demand and permit costs.

Important Notes

  1. Acclimate to high altitudes before trekking. Drink plenty of fluids, avoid alcohol, and consider Diamox (consult your doctor).
  2. Arrive in Cusco 48+ hours before your trek to allow for unforeseen changes due to strikes or other events.

Thank you for choosing Peru Adventure Trek! Enjoy our services, stay safe, and most importantly, have fun!
