Day 1 – Cusco – Santa Teresa – Hidroelectrica – Aguas Calientes Village
Departure at 08:00 am. The tour will begin with a pleasant scenic drive to Ollantaytambo, where we will have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the area while taking a short break of 30 minutes (approx.). From there, we will continue on a long and winding road to “Habra de Malaga”, which is located at an altitude of 4 316 masl / 14 160 ft. From that vantage point, we will see some of the most incredible landscapes that Peru has to offer.
After a brief stop, we will begin our descent into the thick jungle, passing through the different microclimates that combine the paradisiacal landscapes of the majestic snow-capped peaks with the hot and tropical entrance to the rainforest. We will continue along our route until we reach Alfamayó, where there is a paved road in perfect condition that we can use. However, we will have to take an unpaved road, to continue in the direction of Santa Maria, which is at an altitude of 1 575 masl / 5 167 ft. We will take a moment to rest here before continuing on to the small town, Santa Teresa, where a delicious lunch will be waiting for us at approximately 2 pm There will be a variety of foods available to suit all tastes.
Then, at approximately 3:45 pm, we will return to the road in the direction of the train station at the nearby hydroelectric plant. The train will have us in Aguas Calientes at 5:30 pm, at which time we will transfer you to the designated hostels and hotels. If we have additional time to use, we can also take a relaxing bath in the natural, warm waters of the hot baths. However, at 8:00 pm, it will be time to enjoy a hearty dinner together with the guide who will take you to the ancient citadel, Machu Picchu. At that time, you will have the opportunity to go over the plan for the next day and answer any questions. Overnight.
Day 2 – Aguas Calientes – MachuPicchu – Hidroelectrica – Cusco
You will have the option to climb Machu Picchu by bus or on foot. Breakfast will be served from 5:00 am. The guided tour of the site will begin at 6:00 am and will last at least 2 hours. Afterwards, you will enjoy some free time until approximately 11:30 am, which is the recommended time to start returning from the mountain to the train station. The train back to the hydroelectric plant will leave Aguas Calientes at 12:35 pm.
Upon arrival at the hydroelectric plant, we will transfer from the train to a private van, which will take us to Santa Teresa. There, we will have a one-hour break to have one last chance to get some food or use the restroom before embarking on the final leg of the journey. We will then return to Cusco, returning by the same road that brought us here. We will arrive in Cusco around 9:30 pm (approx.).
