Pallay Puchu means (Andean fabric of a poncho) that is why it is named for its geographical formation very much to the Andean fabric called (Andean poncho) that protects from the cold.

Full Itinerary Tour Pallay Punchu Trek Full 1 Day

Rainbow Mountain (also called Pallay Punchu of Apu Tacllo or Montaña filuda de colores) is one of the new and best attractions in Cusco which was discovered in Quarantine(COVID-19). Located more than 194 kilometers from the city of Cusco, on an elevation summit located at 4,791 masl / 15,7181 fasl, it’s a mountainous formation tinged with various shades as a result of the complex combination of minerals. The slopes and summit are highlighted in various colors including red, purple, green, pink, and others. Since 2020, this place has welcomed visitors.

We have 3 Rainbow Mountains in Cusco Region: Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca), which is close to Ausangate trek, Rainbow Mountain(Palccoyo) and the Rainbow Mountain(Pallay Poncho Apu Tacllo). Below you will find all the information about the Pallay Punchu Mountain of Apu Tacllo.

Day 1 : Cusco – Cusipata – Sicuani – Layo – Pallay Punchu

We will pick you up from your hotel around 03:30 am. We drive nearly 4 hours in a private van to the trailhead where we will provide you box breakfast upon arrival to fuel up for the hike ahead of you. After enjoying our breakfast we start hiking up looking down to the Langui Lake. We are going to hike around 2 hours roughly until the top of the Pallay Punchu Mountain, we will have time to explore the area and take pictures. you will spend approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour (depend on your hiking speed and weather conditions).

After enjoying the Pallay Punchu for about one hour, we get back to the trailhead (1 hour roughly), where we catch our van, then we drive for 2 hours to our Lunch spot Cusipata(3,250m/11,000feet) where you will be given delicious food and them drive back to Cusco arriving at your hotel around 05:00 pm roughly.

The degree of difficulty of this route is intermediate – easy, so it is recommended for people with an optimal physical state, as the advancement could be a little tiring for people who are not accustomed to these walks in height. However you can rent a horse in the same locality of Layo with the Communards who offer this service just for people who cannot walk or not willing to walk for three hours.

You must bear in mind that the horse is guided by a horseman and will leave about 15 minutes from the viewpoint of Pallay Punchu so if you or if you will have to walk this stretch.

What months of the year and time are best for a visit Pallay Punchu Trek?

The tour departs every day of the year, being the dry season the most recommended between the months of April to November however the rest of months even with the presence of rain and hail (sometimes) offers us a view that can only be seen with this climate that you can cope with a rain poncho and good trekking shoes.
