Choquequirao to Machu Picchu 8D / 7N – The hike to one of the last Inca refuges, Choquequirao is full of enigmas and a great history that makes it more interesting. Choquequirao is one of the many trails that cross the fantastic Andes mountain range. As such, it has been featured in travel magazines and is considered one of the top ten treks in the world for its biodiversity and wildlife. Most of the trail goes through the Andes and then touches the jungle where we will see local fruit plantations.

Both cities were considered villages of nobles and priestesses, and you will have the opportunity to learn about the legends and treasures that they left through time in these majestic mountains. These towns mark the beginning and the end of the Inca society.
Choquequirao Trek to Machu Picchu 8 Days Tours
The Incas abandoned both cities before their conquerors could follow them there and then explorers found them on expeditions in the Andes. Come on this trek and feel the true adventure of nature still intact! During the hike, you will experience walking the trail of one of the oldest cultures in the world. Choquequirao is located at the foothills of the mountain
Pick up from your hotel at 4:00 am and travel to Cachora (4 hours by bus): While the group has breakfast, the crew organizes the horses for the trek. On this day we will walk 22 km, first to Chiquisca and then uphill, passing Abra Capuliyoc, from where we have a great view of the Apurimac canyon. Finally we descend to Rosalina beach on the banks of the Apurimac River, the main tributary of the Amazon River. Camping at 1550 masl.
After an early breakfast, we start walking uphill, through Opuntia plantations and then into the cloud forest, towards Choquequirao, arriving around 3 pm. We explore the ruins after arriving. The view of the canyon is spectacular, it is also possible to see Andean condors in the mountains … Camping in Choquequirao, 3033 masl.
On this day, we hike uphill for a while to 3299 masl and then descend to Rio Blanco, 1909 masl. On the way we pass by Pinchiunuyoj ruins with Inca terraces. The habitat changes are very spectacular to see birds, different varieties of orchids and coca plants at 2750 masl. From Rio Blanco we climb to Maizal for approximately 3 hours. Camp at 3000 masl.
After breakfast we continue our return trip with a steep descent to the Apurimac River, where we will stop and have lunch. In the afternoon we will climb for approximately 4 hours to our final camp in Coca Masana.
After breakfast, we start climbing slowly towards our upper pass 4668 masl, once again the view is incredible, we are surrounded by snow covered mountains: Mt. Sacsarayoj and Mt. Padreyoj. Camping at 3632 masl.
On this day we descend to the Totora River. As we go along the bird life is very interesting especially with hummingbirds, woodpeckers and many species of orchids and begonias. Camping at 2125 masl.
On this day we hike our last slope 2810 masl, which lasts approximately 3 hours; From here the view of Machu Picchu is fabulous. After a good rest, we descend to the hydroelectric plant on the Urubamba River and from here we can walk to Aguas Calientes or take the train at 4 pm. Overnight in a hotel.
After an early breakfast, we go by bus to Machu Picchu and here we will have a 2 hour guided tour and then you will have free time to explore on your own, maybe climb Wayna Picchu. Return to Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Cusco at 4 pm.
